Our Story, Our Purpose, Our Commitment

Charisma’s Landing, LLC at Shawmut Springs Farm is a small, family-run boarding and wellness farm in Fairfield, Virginia, dedicated to supporting whole-horse health through personalized, evidence-based care.

Having grown up in a traditional boarding barn and later boarding our own horses, we witnessed frequent illness, lameness, and behavioral challenges that were often accepted as “just the way it is.” Over time, we began to question those norms and sought a better, healthier environment for our own horses—one that aligned with how horses are truly meant to live.

That search led to the creation of our farm and guiding principles. We blend science and holistic practices to create a species-appropriate environment where horses can thrive—physically, mentally, and emotionally—at every stage of life and work.

From individualized boarding and equine wellness services to owner education and community events, we are driven by a commitment to empower horse owners through knowledge, connection, and compassionate care.

The Story Behind Charisma’s Landing

Charisma was my first horse—a soulful, spirited partner who taught me more than I ever expected. She faced complex medical challenges that conventional treatments couldn’t resolve, and at the time, I didn’t yet have the knowledge of holistic and integrative care that might have made a difference. Losing her changed everything. It lit a fire in me to learn more, to do more, and to ensure other horses received the kind of individualized, whole-horse support she never had.

After Charisma passed, her brother Marley was distraught. It was clear that he, too, wanted to be part of the healing and the learning. But Marley soon began facing issue after issue—things that couldn’t be fixed with simple treatments or short-term solutions. Determined to uncover the real reasons behind his struggles—not just mask the symptoms—we went down the rabbit hole of research, observation, and collaboration. He became my teacher in an entirely new way, guiding me deeper into root-cause care and reinforcing the importance of listening to the horse.

Today, Charisma rests peacefully on the hill overlooking the farm. Her presence is felt in everything we do. She’s the heart behind Charisma’s Landing—a daily reminder of why education, compassion, and personalized care are the foundation of our work. Every horse that comes here is truly seen, heard, and supported.

Meet Amanda

As a paramedic, I have always prioritized my patients, ensuring that every individual receives thoughtful, personalized attention. That same philosophy extends to the horses I work with—both here at Charisma’s Landing LLC and at the farms I visit. My approach to equine care is rooted in whole-horse health and mindful practices, recognizing that true wellness is multidimensional. I consider not only the physical and mental aspects, but also the emotional, environmental, and social factors that influence a horse’s well-being—just as I would with my human patients.

Amanda and Charisma

Education is a cornerstone of everything I do, both personally and professionally. I’m constantly seeking out new knowledge through classes, webinars, clinics, and hands-on experiences—and I’ve been told I’m a sponge when it comes to learning. That passion for continued growth allows me to bring fresh insight, evolving practices, and informed care to every horse and owner I work with. At Charisma’s Landing, we believe learning never stops, and that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to support lasting wellness—for both horses and their humans.

I’m committed to creating an environment where horses can thrive—physically, mentally, and emotionally. The more we honor their natural instincts and individual needs, the better we can support their whole-horse wellness. Movement is more than a physical necessity; it’s key to mental and emotional balance. That’s why our track system is designed to encourage natural behaviors like roaming, grazing, and socializing within a safe, enriching space.

Every horse is approached as a whole being. I consider nutrition, hoof care, emotional needs, training, and daily management as interconnected parts of their well-being. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula—wellness is about tuning in to what each horse needs to feel healthy, confident, and understood.

I also believe in empowering owners through education. Whether through conversation, shared resources, or hands-on support, I strive to help owners feel informed and confident in their care.

At Charisma’s Landing, we’re not just creating better lives for horses—we’re building a community of connected, compassionate caretakers who believe that doing better starts with knowing better.

About Shawmut Springs Farm

A name so fitting and special to us—Shawmut Springs is a place where history, nature, and a whole lot of heart come together.

The name Shawmut is an Algonquin word tied to the Boston area, loosely translating to “living waters” or springs of fresh water. With several natural springs on the property, it felt like the perfect fit—and these days, thanks to all the snow and rain, they’re flowing stronger than ever.

We’ve been working hard to revitalize our pastures and nurture the land, planting native grasses, wildflowers, shrubs, and trees to support a thriving, healthy ecosystem. There’s something deeply fulfilling about rewilding spaces and watching nature respond with beauty and resilience. The name Shawmut Springs reminds us daily of our connection to this land, and the life it nourishes.
